To get a break from our regular working schedule, RWS social club planned an unwinding trip on the occasion of New Year 2023 Eve. It ends up at the Markhu village, a nearby destination from the capital. It lies on the northwestern shores of the only manmade lake of Nepal, Indrasarovar. Indrasarovar is also known as Kulekhani which is the only reservoir-based hydropower in Nepal.

We started our journey from the office, where we all gathered and wait for the vehicle. We heard that there were only two public vehicles for that route. Hence we booked EVs from the resort where we made our reservation for our stay. It was too cold as well as the route to Markhu is also too much off-road. So we chose not to take our vehicles. After the cars arrived, we left the office at 9 AM and headed straight to the Chandragiri route. It was getting more amazing as far as we moved away from the crowded city and got in touch with the gusts of fresh air.

We found a local shop to have some tea and snacks after 30 mins of travel. Thus we decided to stop with the wonderful views of multiple mountains. We also enjoyed the panoramic Kathmandu city from the top of the hills opposite below to the Chandragiri Hills. Even though we were drinking hot tea/coffee, it was trembling cold over there. Then, we head our way towards the hotel, Kulekhani Damside Hotel (where we stayed) through the Chitlang village.

Finally, we reached our destination hotel after around 2 hours of travel from Kathmandu. After freshening up, we start our trek towards the Bheda Farm. At the bottom of the Bheda Farm Hill, we had a wonderful launch with the mind-blowing scenery of the lake. Then we started climbing the hill. After passing the tough hill of almost 15 minutes distance, we encountered the relaxing view of the doom-shaped hills covered with grass and trees.

Although our heart was not ready to leave that place, we made our way back to the resort since it was about to have dusk. Since it was the new year 2023 eve, many groups came to hang out with their friends and families. We went to the room and hung out with drinks, and snacks. We didn’t stop there and start playing cards as it was long to be midnight.

Around 10:30 PM, we came out for dinner though the people were singing and dancing. Some were enjoying watching it along with the campfire. Later, we joined them on the dance floor and camp firing as well. There was also a program for cutting cakes as it was the same day as the resort’s 2nd Anniversary. We enjoyed all the events till midnight but the cold was at the next level. We welcomed the New Year 2023 with the sound of the bursting of firecrackers, lights, freezing air, the heat of burning woods, smell of smoke coming from firing!

Our fun didn’t end up even after returning to the room. We play cards till late at night with drinks. Nevertheless, we need to get some rest to restore energy to explore more heavenly places of Markhu. So, we decided to sleep. Early in the morning, a new beginning of the new year 2023, we woke up with dew hanging all over the window glass. But the excitement was high like the ray of light penetrating us through the foggy clouds. Having some hot and heavy snacks, we head towards the lake for boating.

We booked a wooden boat for about 45 minutes. And enjoy the sound of air and the water splashing under the clean skies shadowing the blue water with the surroundings covered full of natural assets. After creating unforgettable memories with the lake, we went to the suspension bridge (Jhalunge Pul). It was like we were dangling up above the water and moving forward. Fresh and cold air storms were whispering with us about the beauty given by nature to this place.

After making some moments and promises to ourselves about returning to that place we return to the resort. Just after the continuous walk from here to there, we had a satisfactory launch at the resort and got ready to be back to regular life.
